Description:

8MBGM ENHANCED by holbred is based on Merlin 8mbgm_plus13. In comparison with other big
soundfonts, this one sounds best if you play Descent and other games that use the General
MIDI standard. It is considerably better than the CT4MGM.SF2 soundfont that is loaded
when you play MIDI sounds with, for example, an Audigy 2. However, it has still some flaws.
Hence, I improved it with instruments of other soundfonts. I orientated myself on the MIDI sound
of my Terratec Maestro 32/96. This ISA card is able to play MIDI songs in a quality that is
unsurpassed by PCI sound cards in most cases.

The following sound cards are compatible to soundfonts:

Sound Blaster AWE 32/64

Instruction:

1. Unpack the RAR-file with an appropriate packing program (e.g. Winrar).
2. Copy 8mbgm_enhanced18.sf2 into the system32 folder of windows.
3. Open soundfont Bank Manager (it is usually in your Creative folder. If it is not there,
   then it is on the installation CD).
4. On the left, next to the soundfont (e.g. 4MB GMGSMT), is the word "Bank".
   Click on it.
5. Highlight the bank you want to replace (e.g. 4MB GMGSMT). Then click
   on "Remove".
6. Click on "Load" and open the 8mbgm_enhanced18.sf2 file. Then click on "OK".

Important notice:

On older Sound Blaster cards (PCI512, SBLive!, Audigy), you load soundfonts with
AudioHQ software.

Tips:

1. In order to receive the most realistic and natural sound impression, you should
   deactivate "CMSS 3D" in your Creative software (e.g. in Surround Mixer)!

2. You obtain the best sound when you activate "Static Caching" in Soundfont Bank Manager
   (click on "MIDI Devices")!

3. If you cannot load the soundfont, check if the cache is not to small adjusted (especially
   with SB Live! cards)!
